Four wheel drive systems (4WD), enable all of your wheels to spin simultaneously. All vehicles equipped with 4WD have a transfer case between the front and rear axles that prevents the axles of your vehicle from spinning at different speeds. Essentially, 4WD is like a communication device for your vehicle! This allows your vehicle better traction and maximum torque in order to maintain traction (and your safety!)
